Congratulations to the 2017 Lido Civic Club Scholarship winners! Francesco Isgro, Chair of the Lido Civic Club Scholarship Committee, announced the winners of a total on $60,000 in scholarships at the Sixth Annual Scholarship Awards Presentations held at the Italian Embassy. The scholarship winners are: Domenic Allegra, Bridget Bagileo, Ethan Casserino, Nina Dorsett, Olivia Eichner-Tomassoni, Anthony Fiora, Mathew Fairbanks, Maximilian Micheli and Isabella Parrotta. Domenic and Isabella were the winners of the Angelo Caputo and Frank Trimboli Scholarship and were presented a plaque by Wendy Caputo and Frank Trimboli, Jr. Mathew was the winner of the Domenic Antonelli, Jr. Scholarship award and was presented a plaque by Lorry Clavelli. The Lido Civic Club Scholarships are matched by the National Italian American Foundation.

The evening began with welcoming remarks by Italian Embassy’s First Counselor Catherine Flumiani who thanked the Lido Civic Club for its continuing support of the Italian language programs in the Washington area. Former president Brian Della Rocca presented “The 2016 Member Contribution Award” to past president Lorry Clavelli, “in recognition of your many years of dedicated service to the Club, your leadership of the Scholarship Committee and the Commerce Committee and all you have done for the Club.”

The Lido Civic Club also presented a special award to Prof.ssa Maria Grazia Cavallini who teaches AP Italian at the Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, MD. In presenting the award, Lido Civic Club president Tom Regnante noted Cavallini’s outstanding contributions in teaching and promoting the AP Italian Language and Culture courses.  Phil Finelli, co-chair of the Golf Committee presented the Lido Civic Club grant of $10,000 to Joe Lupo and Fr. Ezio Marchetto, President and chairman respectively of the Casa Italiana Language School.
