 The Lido Civic Club ,  at a reception held at the Kenwood Country Club, officially awarded $95,000 to 14 outstanding Italian American students from the Washington, DC area. The awards were presented by President Richard DiPippo, and Past President and former Scholarship Chair Francesco Isgro. Domenico Bellantone, the First Counselor of the Embassy of Italy, was the special guest speaker. Fr. Andrei Zanon, C.S., Administrator of Holy Rosary Church, gave the Benediction.
 
The students awarded the scholarships are:
 
Luke Evans – Luke is a graduate of Our Lady of Good Counsel High School and will be a freshman at either Salisbury University or St. Mary’s College. His maternal grandfather was from the Abruzzo region and his maternal grandmother was from the region of Lazio.
Vincent Fanelli – Vincent will be a sophomore at George Mason University majoring in Cyber Security Engineering. His paternal roots are from Riccia, Molise.
Stephanie Farace – Stephanie will be a Sophomore at The University of Maryland College Park and is majoring in Computer Science. Her paternal ancestors are from Lazio and Apulia.
Shannon Gibbons – Shannon is a graduate of the Academy of the Holy Cross and will be a freshman at High Point University in Exercise Science. Her maternal ancestors are from Florence, Italy.
Alexa Mulroe -Alexa is a graduate from Marriotts Ridge High School and will be a freshman at the University of Notre Dame in the Pre-Med program. Her maternal and paternal ancestors are from Calabria.
Annamaria Palmiero – Annamaria is a graduate of Sidwell Friends School and will be a freshman at UMBC with a double major in Nursing and Anthropology. Her father and her paternal grandparents were born in Benevento and her maternal grandparents were born in Sorrento.
 
Winners of named scholarship awards were:
DOMENICO TOSCANO, RECIPIENT OF THE DOMENIC “NICK” ANTONELLI AWARD
Domenico will be a Senior at the University of Delaware and is majoring in Finance and Entrepreneurship with a minor in Italian. His paternal ancestors are from Antillo and Messina in Sicily;
NICOLE FAIRBANKS RECIPIENT OF THE MADELINE AND ANTONIO GERMINARIO SCHOLARSHIP
Nicole is a graduate of Urbana High School in Md . She will be a Junior at the University of Pittsburgh and is majoring in Psychology and Neuroscience. Her maternal ancestors are from Campania.
SIDNEY PIZZA, RECIPIENT OF THE ANGELO CAPUTO & FRANK TRIMBOLI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Sydney is a graduate of Walter Johnson High School. During her senior year, she was dual enrolled at Montgomery College. She will be attending the University of Delaware pursuing a Bachelors degree in Business. Her maternal roots are from Salerno, Italy and Avellino, Campania, Italy. Her paternal roots are from Montella, Italy and Calabria, Italy.
GABRIELLA MANZIANO, RECIPIENT OF THE ROSARIO ARGENTO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Gabriella is a graduate of Stone Bridge High School and will be a freshman at Boston College studying Elementary Education. Her paternal and maternal ancestors are from Campania.
CHIARA O’NEILL RECIPIENT OF THE GASTONE/MONTICELLI MEMORIAL
Chiara will be a Senior at Drexel University and is majoring Mechanical Engineering. Her maternal ancestors are from Molise, Abruzzo and Sicily
SOFIA SERGI THE GLICKFIELD FAMILY FOUNDATION SCHOOLARSHIP
Sofia will be a Sophomore at Salisbury University and is majoring in Economics. Her maternal roots are from Salerno, Italy and Avellino, Campania, Italy. Her maternal and paternal ancestors are from Naples, Sorrento and Sicily
PATRIZIA MANZIANO RECIPIENT OF THE LORRY CLAVELLI SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
Patrizia will be a Senior at the University of Notre Dame and is majoring in Neuroscience and Behavior. Her paternal ancestors are from Campania.
 
 
The Lido Civic Club also honored PROF MARIA FUSCO, Director of the Embassy of Italy for her contribution in promoting the Italian language in the United States, and especially for supporting the teaching of Italian in the Nation’s Capital and her support of the Casa Italiana Language School.
