The Director of the Education Office of the Italian Embassy, Professor Maria Fusco, visited Mantua Elementary School in Fairfax County on November 30.
This provided an excellent opportunity to confirm the importance of cooperation between the Embassy and the Fairfax County Public Schools regarding the teaching of the Italian language in local schools.
The Embassy of Italy, through the Ente Gestore Casa Italiana, promotes the teaching of Italian as a second language starting in primary school. The Mantua Elementary School Principal, Jan-Marie Fernandez, and teachers Anna Iervolino and Marina Afentakis, who use Italian also to teach science, all play a pivotal role in this program.
