The Italian Scientists and Scholars of North America Foundation (ISSNAF) annual conference will be held on October 17-18, 2016 at the Italian Embassy in Washington, DC.

logo-issnaf2During the event the Italian Scientific Community meets the institutions, the industry, academia to discuss breakthrough ideas, network, and to award projects of young Italians through the ISSNAF Young Investigators Awards in different fields of Science. The event brings together prominent Italian scientists and researchers active in North America, as well as representatives of the Institutions and the industry.

The event is organized Under the Auspices of H.E. Ambassador Armando Varricchio, the Ministry of Italian Foreign Affairs (MAECI), Ministry of research and Education (MIUR), Italian Ministry of Health, and has the Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic.

This year’s exciting conference will focus on Innovation Through Science, exploring innovation as invention and transformation, how research, new ideas and approaches become reality, and their impact on how we live and think.

After an introduction by the H.E. Ambassador of Italy Armando Varricchio, authorities and ISSNAF’s President and Executive Director, Panel I will focus on investment opportunities in Italy in the area of research and innovation, with the presentation to the International community of the Human Technopole, the new Research and Innovation center that will rise in Milano, by Prof. Cingolani, Director of IIT and lead of the Human Technopole. Prof. Simoni Economic Advisor of Prime Minister Renzi will introduce the initiatives of the Government in support to the opportunities in innovation and research in Italy. After the first panel we will have a roundtable discussion facilitated by Maria Teresa Cometto, Journalist and Author. The panelists will be joined by Maurizio Vecchione, Senior VP of Intellectual Ventures, Global Good and Research for the discussion and Q&A from the public.

Panel II will open with Cisco Italia’s General Manager Agostino Santone that will talk about Cisco’s investment in research and Innovation to accelerate Italy’s competitiveness, while IBM’s CTO Fabrizio Renzi will talk about research In Italy in private sector. Giovanni Caforio, CEO of Bristol Mayer Squibb closes the Panel with BMS’ research and findings in immunotherapy. After this Panel, Fulvia Astolfi, Partner at Hogan Lovells in Rome, will moderate the roundtable. The panelists will be joined by Paolo Sassone Corsi, Director of the Center of Epigenetics at UCIrvine.

Day One of ISSNAF’s Annual event will conclude with the celebration of the Cav. Fulvia Bracco Award in Medical Imaging presented by Bracco USA President&CEO, Vittorio Puppo and the ISSNAF Life Achievement Award handed this year to prof. Giuseppe Mazzotta, a Yale Sterling Professor in Humanities. A reception will follow.
