During his brief visit in Washington DC (June 17, 2019, Matteo Salvini, the Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, met with US Vice President Michael R. Pence at the White House and Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo at the Department of State.
According to the Italian Embassy press statement, “the meetings allowed to strengthen the historic bond of friendship, rooted in the values of freedom and democracy at the basis of the Atlantic Alliance and fostered by strong political, economic, social and cultural relations. The meetings also confirmed the common approach on the main international dossiers.”
During his visit, Salvini also met Grover Norquist, President of Americans for Tax Reform.
In the wake of the anniversary of the liberation of Europe by the United States, Salvini laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Arlington National Cemetery and visited the Lincoln Memorial.
