Hon. Fucsia Nissoli

The Lido Civic Club will honor Italian Chamber of Deputies Representative Angela Fucsia Nissoli with its Lido Friendship Award at its annual Italian-American Congressional Reception on Capitol Hill on September 18, 2014. The Lido Friendship Award is bestowed on individuals who have made significant contributions to the Italian-American community.

“We are honored to present the Lido Friendship Award to Hon. Fucsia Nissoli for her work in representing the Italians of North and Central America in Italy’s Chamber of Deputies, and for the many other significant contributions she has made to the Italian-American community,” said Francesco Isgrò, President of the Lido Civic Club.

Hon. Nissoli was elected to the Italian Parliament in February 2013. Born and raised in Treviglio, Italy (near Bergamo, Lombardy), she settled in the United States with her husband, Thomas Fitzgerald, more than 25 years ago. Before winning the election, Hon. Nissoli was heavily engaged with the Italian community, working on a number of projects promoting the Italian language and culture.

Hon. Nissoli served as PR for “La Fata Italiana,” a special format created by Simona Rodano to develop a love for the Italian language through activities with children, and helped organize the first American Tour of the “Coro della Diocesi di Roma” (2011), with the prestigious Vatican master composer Monsignor Marco Frisina. In honor of her maternal Sicilian roots, the Hon. Nissoli has actively collaborated by organizing several events in conjunction with the CSNA (Confederazione Siciliana del Nord America).

As the elected representative in North America, she works to improve and strengthen services for Italians abroad, to defend the unique appeal of “Made in Italy” products, and to promote the Italian language and culture.

This special event will be attended by members of the Italian-American Congressional Delegation, members of the Italian Parliament, government officials, and other DC notables who will join the Lido Civic Club for an evening celebrating the Italian-American heritage and culture.
